Wailuku River Hawaii Mouth to source 26 The longest and largest river in the State, the Wailuku rises on the slopes of Mauna Kea at the 10,800 foot elevation and descends to sea level in 26 miles. There are several waterfalls, the most notable of which are Rainbow Falls and the Boiling Pots (a series of small falls and pools). Hunting for wild game is reknowned in the upper and middle reaches. The lower river is used for swimming and tubing.

Hanalei River Kauai Mouth to source 14 Extremely photogenic stream displaying historic taro agricultural practices within the Hanalei National Wildlife Refuge. Possesses an important estuary with outstanding fishery values.
Kolekole Stream Hawaii Mouth to source 12 The stream contains the State’s highest waterfall, the 420 foot Akaka Falls within Akaka Falls State Park. The stream corridor in this area passes through a lush rain forest containing several varieties of orchids. Other waterfalls also are located on the main stem and side tributaries. Kolokole Beach Park is located at the mouth.
Kalihiwai River Kauai From mouth to source, including tributaries. 10 Aquatic-Excellent habitat for native aquatic species. Diverse population of sensitive native aquatic species. Actual mileage is 10.03.
Palikea Stream Including Pipiwai Stream and Oheo Gulch Maui Mouth to source including Pipiwai Stream and Ohea Gulch 10 Scenic stream system offering numerous waterfallls and plunge pools. Popular “Seven Pools” area is nationally renowned and associated trails offer hiking opportunities to visitors of Haleakala National Park.
Hanawi Stream Maui Mouth to source including the two major source tributaries 9 Scenic stream flowing through an undeveloped dense forest and over several waterfalls (one drops more than 150 feet). May be the most pristine stream left in the State with cold, clear, spring-fed water and a great diversity of native stream fauna.
Koaie Stream Kauai Confluence with Waimea Stream to source 9 Headwaters are in the Alakai Swamp. Possesses long level reaches with several meadows. Flows are relatively large. Scenic values are high, especially as it approaches the famous Waimea Canyon area also known as the “Grand Canyon of the Pacific”.
Lumahai River Kauai Mouth to source 8 This scenic stream flows from remote precipitous headwaters, through a moderate gradient boulder strewn riffle and pool area, and terminates in the most pristine estuary in the State. The upper drainage flows through wild rain forest containing nearly all native flora. Lumahai Beach is very popular both with residents and tourists and is one of the most photographed spots on Kauai.
Waialae Stream Kauai Confluence with Waimea Stream to junction of Halehaha and Halepaakai Streams 8 Source tributaries originate in the Alakai Swamp. Flows over several waterfalls, through meadows and down to its confluence with Waimea Stream. Lower reaches exhibit the scenic grandeur of the Waimea Canyon area.

Kahana Stream Honolulu (On Oahu) Mouth to source 6 One of the largest streams on the island of Oahu, yet it is still relatively undeveloped. Possess one of the few well-defined and undeveloped estuaries in the State of Hawaii. Community along lower reaches still retains historic character, and the State has advanced plans to incorporate it into a state park and cultural interpretation center.

Waimanu Stream Hawaii Mouth to source 4 One of the few relatively undisturbed streams in the State, the Waimanu is designated by the State as an estuarine sanctuary with virtually the entire stream area under State ownership. There are historic remains of native Hawaiian habitation and use.
Halawa Stream Maui (On Molokai) Mouth to source 3 This scenic stream flows over Moaula Falls through the broad Halawa Valley, and into an estuary before emptying into Halawa Bay.

Kawainui Stream (Papalaua Valley) Maui (On Molokai) Mouth to source 2 This scenic stream, representative of a narrow valley stream on Molokai and known for its spectacular waterfall, Papalaua Falls, drops 1,700 feet in elevation in a quarter mile before leveling off in Papalaua Valley and flowing into the Pacific Ocean.
