Tornado in Alabama appears to be the worst natural disaster in USA in the past few years. Powerful tornadoes struck the southern and Midwestern states, casing large-scale damage and claiming many lives. According to the initial reports, more than 300 people had died in total.
The state of Alabama was among the worst-hit, with close to 200 casualties already. Eye-witnesses said that the tornadoes spelled doom for the entire state, whipping away buildings and other infrastructure. The costs of these damages are not yet properly assessed, but are expected to run into billions of dollars.
The Alabama Senator Richard Shelby toured the affected areas of the state, and later said that it was the worst storm in all his experience. The US President Barack Obama has also expressed regret over the loss, terming it “nothing short of catastrophic”.

Alabama uprooted
Incredibly enough, it was a mile-wide tornado that descended on the town of Tuscaloosa in Alabama. Trees were uprooted and building blown away as the powerful tornado wiped off everything in its path. It happened at about 5 pm on April 28. The governor of Alabama has already declared a state of emergency.
The Alabama Emergency Management Agency has said that the damage was the most in the central and northern Alabama.
