The Incheon Asiad Main Stadium is one of the venues of the 17th Asian Games Incheon aka XVII Asiad, 2014 scheduled to be held in and around the metropolitan city of Incheon from September 19, 2014 to October 4, 2014. Along with opening and closing ceremonies, the venue will host athletics. The Asiad is managed by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). On April 17, 2007, Incheon was chosen as the venue for the 16-day Asiad 2014. The total number of participants is about 20,000, comprising of 13,000 athletes and officials and 7,000 media from 45 National Olympic Committees (NOC). The operational staff to assist in the seamless workflow will consist of about 30,000 people.
Joo Young, a Korean architect designed the main stadium for the Incheon 2014 Asian Games. Populous, the global architecture firm is building the stadium in collaboration with Heerim Architects and Planners. The chief feature of the stadium is its sustainability. The design configures the main facilities towards the permanent western side, while the temporary seating spaces towards the eastern side. The temporary seating will be removed after the games.
In the beginning of the stadium, you can see the reflections of the traditional Buddhist ritual Seung Moo Dance. It exhibits form and space around active movement. The forces of yin and yang form the nucleus of the architectural design.
