Geirangerfjord – one of the most famous Fjords in Norway

Norway is a land of breathtaking landscapes consisting of mountains, lakes and forests. It’s famous for its fjords, the ice age creations where high mountains and cliffs literally rise out of the sea.

The fjord region in the western part of the country attracts a lot of tourism. The landscape has unimaginable dramatic sceneries and is dotted with a number of towns, many of which have retained the traditional architecture and customs that Norway is known for. Although the scenery of the fjords is the most popular attraction in the region, there are many other things that this area offers. Bergen and Stavanger feature museums and historic buildings offer histories that date back to the Viking era.

Hence, tourists in this region find a balance between history, scenery as well as outdoor creation. Many festivals and activities take place along the fjords. Most villages and towns have their own festivals and tourists can go from place to place and experience local festivals in a fine atmosphere. Passenger boats connect even the most remote towns and islands in the region, which makes it quite easy for tourists to get around the area. There are a variety of options for accommodation in the region as well. Campsites are available throughout the region for those who are outdoor enthusiasts. Large comfortable hotels and resorts are near the bigger cities and towns such as Bergen. Some tourists also prefer to stay on working farms near the fjords for a truly rural experience of the region.

Best time to visit Fjord

Norway’s weather is temperate and pleasant all year round due to the Gulf Stream effect. Fjords are directly affected by this weather and the weather is quite pleasant in the summer. The winter weather goes just below freezing and there isn’t much sunlight in the region during this time of the year so it’s wise to take this fact into consideration while planning a trip to Norway.
