Tate Modern, London – A Virtual Treasure Trove of Contemporary Art

Tate Modern Gallery, London is UK’s national gallery of contemporary art. Located in London, the  Tate Modern Art Gallery is one among the chain of four Tate galleries in the U.K. The Tate collection consists of some of the finest collections of British art dating back from 1500 to today’s modern era.

Virtual Treasure Trove of Contemporary Art

Tate Modern Gallery, London was built in the year 2000 and stands at the site, which actually had an abandoned power station, right in central London.The rare Tate collection is a virtual treasure trove of contemporary art and includes stunning masterpieces of both Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse as also surreal collections of Salvador Dali, Max Ernst, René Magritte and Joan Miro.

Also, under possession of Tate are significant collection of American abstract art inclusive of Jackson Pollock and Mark Rothko. Russian art and pop art too is well represented at Tate Modern Gallery London.

An Architectural Marvel

The Tate Modern building is an architectural marvel in London’s landscape, which was designed by the renowned Swiss firm, Herzog & De Meuron. With a total floor area of 34,500 sq.m and inclusive of gallery suites, special exhibition suites, a 250-seater auditorium, café and restaurants, a members room, exclusive office space and art handling area makes Tate Modern one of London’s most sophisticated art galleries.
Time permitting drop in to the Tate Modern Restaurant, which provides great food and snacks, but also affords majestic views of a panoramic stretch of the River Thames.

Nearest Tube Station :  Southwark (Jubilee Line),  Mansion House (District and Circle Line),  St Pauls (Central Line)

Timings : National Gallery is open everyday, from Sunday to Thursday 1000 hours to 1800 hours and from Friday till Saturday it is open late till 2200 hours. Visit to Tate Modern is free except on special exhibitions. It remains closed on 24, 25, 26 December.
