Walking down Alexanderplatz in Berlin, I spotted this unique one man business. This hot dog vendor had taken the traditional hot dog cart business to a whole new dimension. This mobile hot dog vendor was a “one man army”, with a cooking grill attached to his waist, an umbrella to protect him from the sun, a make-shift shelf for ketchup and mustard, and a storage unit as a back-pack. I wonder if he had drinks to offer too.
No more worries about location and foot falls, our man was the stand, efficiently doling out hot-dogs and the local favorite, bratwursts, to anyone looking for a quick bite. Walking further, I spotted more mobile vendors, all geared up and in similar colored uniforms. I wonder if there’s any safety manual in running an operation like this, with a hot grill tied to your waist. Also, how would one take breaks for the washroom or run in case of emergencies. It would also be interesting to see how this model could be adapted to other street foods, perhaps a mobile crepes vendor, with an assortment of toppings by his waist shelves? Or sandwiches? I think it would be a stretch to imagine pizzas being baked and served like this, or may be not.
