Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel was opened in 1927 in Los Angeles, and derives its name from the former US President Teddy Roosevelt. The hotel is famous for hosting the first Academy Awards in 1929 and also because actress Marilyn Monroe was a resident here. The hotel staff and some guests have revealed about their sightings of the ghost of a blond woman, perhaps Marilyn Monroe, in the long mirror found in her former suite. Some people even claimed to have felt her presence at the hotel’s poolside nightclub, Tropicana. Not just one, but there is another celebrity ghost which haunts the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. It is the ghost of actor Montgomery Clift, a former resident of Room 928. It is said that on windy evenings, you may hear him playing his trombone and reciting lines from a movie in his room or in the hallway.
Daytona Beach Hotel, USA
Wesh News reported some spooky activities at Daytona Beach Hotel in October 2013. This century-old hotel is believed to be haunted. According to the hotel security chief Chris Lenkiewicz and his staff, they have noticed some unusual and unexplainable activities at the hotel. Showing footage from the security cameras, they pointed out a mist moving through the bar. Suddenly, the apparition takes the form of a person and runs away. Other employees have also reported strange sightings and sounds from various places at the hotel, esp. at Room 1111, from where a guest accidentally fell from a balcony and died several years back.
Elvey Farm, England
Experience the spookiest feeling at Elvey Farm in Kent’s Pluckley, which people claim to be the most haunted village in England. Several people have reported an encounter with the ghost of a farmer Edward Brett, who committed suicide at the hotel in 1900. It is said that some guests have seen him walking around the corridors of the hotel. Several instances of paranormal activity have been observed at the hotel including an unusual smell that resembles burning hay. One of the investigators couldn’t find anything at the hotel, but reported about the eerie aura that hovers in the village.

Since it was opened to the public in 1865, the Langham Hotel in London has been frequented by a number of literary geniuses including Arthur Conan Doyle, Oscar Wilde, and Mark Twain. The hotel has become popular for ghost sightings. It is said that one of the ghosts is of a man in Victorian evening wear who appears in Room 333 only during October. A guest claimed to have seen a ghostly figure of a man in military dress standing by the window on the fourth floor. Some say that it is probably the ghost of a German Prince who committed suicide by jumping out of a window just before the beginning of World War I. One of the guests in Room No. 8 claimed that he was choked by the ghosts of the two girls who sat upon his chest. Also, the room became icy-cold. The spirit of the woman who fell and died on the spiral staircase, the ghost of a former hotel owner, and a former maid are said to haunt the hotel.
Grand Hyatt Hotel, Taiwan
The five-star Grand Hyatt Hotel in Taiwan built over a former political prison during World War II, is believed to be preoccupied by the spirits of numerous inmates who were executed. The hotel has placed Chinese sutras in specific locations to get rid of these wandering spirits. It was reported that the famous actor Jackie Chan also came out of his room in the middle of the night haunted by a spirit.
Fairmont Banff Springs, Canada
Situated on a very romantic location in the Canadian Rockies, the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel evokes the feel of the medieval castles. Even though the hotel authorities deny paranormal activities, yet people have claimed to have felt the ghost of a young bride who died accidentally at the marble staircase at the hotel. Staff and guests have also reported encountering a former bellboy Sam Macauley dressed in full uniform on the ninth floor, who vanishes after helping the guests.

Le Pavillon Hotel in New Orleans has interesting spirits as permanent residents. Out of all five reported ghosts, the most amusing spirit is of a hippie, a young man in colored dress and bell bottoms who roams like cartoon characters in the Flintstones – without shoes. He is usually seen running around and vanishing into the walls. He is also a prankster and is often accused of hiding objects and jerking blankets off unsuspicious guests. Another popular spirit is of Adda, a girl with tears in her eyes, who claims to be lost and suddenly disappears.
The Skirrid Mountain Inn, Wales
The Skirrid Mountain Inn in Wales has been haunted since 1110. The spirits of the former convicts who were hanged to death from a beam haunt the hotel. Some of the guests have felt a rope tightened around their neck and they struggled hard to escape its grip. The rope also left a mark around their neck which stayed for several days.
