Florence is located in northwestern corner of the state of Alabama. Nicknamed "Alabama's Renaissance City," it is the county seat of Lauderdale County. Situated on the banks of the Tennessee River, Florence is the principal city of Florence–Muscle Shoals metropolitan area otherwise known as "The Shoals."

The city is situated on the banks of the Tennessee River. Both US Highway 43 and US Highway 72 interest near the city limits. Huntsville International Airport (HSV) lies about an hour′s drive from Florence. The city is packed with attractions like Frank Lloyd Wright's Rosenbaum House, Deibert Park, W. C. Handy Birthplace, Museum & Library, McFarland Park, and River Heritage Park.
