The Cardiff Coal and Iron Company went bankrupt a few year later and the town was practically abandoned. Today, most of its territory mostly lies within the city limits of Rockwood. Interstate 40 runs north of the city while US Route 27 passes through the city. The Watts Bar Lake lies near the town's southern boundary.
