Once famous as "The Jewelry Capital of the World", this small manufacturing city is regarded as the birthplace of the jewelry industry in New England. It is one of the major manufacturing employment centers in Massachusetts, and has a legacy of jewelry and metal fabrication work.
The famous Capron Park Zoo, completely rebuilt in 1989, is located in the center of the city. Apart from nocturnal animals and tropical rain forest animals, the zoo also features many endangered species such as sloth bears and snow leopards. The renovated public library in Attleboro provides space for community activities, as well as additional areas for the children's and young people's collections.
This friendly and growing city houses the LaSalette Shrine where a spectacular Christmas light display is held. The Industrial Museum and the Art Museum of Attleboro possess exhibits that showcase the versatility of Attleboro's craftspeople and artists. Attleboro schools, churches and other organizations cater to the people's educational, religious and other needs. A branch of the Bristol County District Court is also located in the city.
