Almont is a village in the Lapeer County, in the State of Michigan, USA. It was incorporated as a village in 1855 and is located within the Almont Township. It is a part of the Detroit Metro Area and is in the Eastern Standard time zone.
There are a number of views regarding the origin of the name 'Almont' for this village. Some hold the opinion that the place was named after the name of the Mexican General, Juan N Almonte. Others are of the view that the name was proposed by James Thompson, instrumental in establishing the town, in honor of his native region in Scotland. However, the word 'Almont' is a Scottish word meaning "at the mount".
Almont was first settled around late 1820s by James Deneen. It received its first post office in 1835. Today, the village is a well developed community, having a number of cities located close to it. It is only about 5.9 miles from Dryden, 7.4 miles from Imlay City, and 7.7 miles from Leonard. One can travel to Michigan to experience the unruffled beauty and tranquility of Almont.
