Information is a tricky business to be in. At times, you need to do so much data crunching that sardines start feeling that their can is a Pacific Ocean, really – no kidding!
Our requisition to the content team was to provide us with just one page of information on the US, which when read and absorbed, would make the reader at par or better than majority of those who live in the US. Frankly, that’s a lot of crunching. Once requisitioned, we went back to say there should be some surprises in this write-up for the locals, too. Now that was asking for too much, however, it worked. Today this single page on Mapsofworld provides so many nuggets of information on the US that anyone can start a US familiarization program purely on the basis of this one resource.
Beginning with a reference to 12,000 B.C. and the lands which came to be known as the US, this single pager or so, touches close to 150 different aspects of the US and provides links to information within the site, all of which can take a few weeks to read.
Having zeroed down 150 + components, we decided to put a central screen-size map of the US and make it clickable to each of the 50 states. The strategy worked. This single pager over a period of last five years has emerged as a one-point source for Marsians to gain knowledge about the US. Of course, no one stops those living in the US to use this as a cheat sheet, too! Check out and tell me, if you think we should add some more introductions? The US.
