100 Inspirations – 100 Projects

Can one project comprise tiny 100 projects and function with utmost precision and detail? Yes, Team Mapsofworld can do it, has done it. We began a project called FryDay Poll. Yes, FryDay, and not Friday. FryDay Poll was based on a concept that every Friday, Team Mapsofworld.com would churn out a new dish, in terms of a new topic, hitherto not covered in Mapsofworld.com and “fry” it to our users’ liking. Frying included creating an easy-to-digest infographic and frying included elaborate notes.

We decided to make it live on a dedicated URL called Frydaypoll.com. For 100 weeks, week-after- week, we completed one edition of this project, which was a sort of project in itself.

We took all kinds of topics, however, our premise was that we would take such topics that had a connect with maps or geography. Some team members joked that we as an organization are so much into maps that there is absolutely nothing at all in this world, which we can understand without maps.

Our infographic titled “Is War A Booming Industry” became success of the series, being shared almost virally on Facebook – no mean feat for the Mapsofworld’s community, which is largely traction-driven.

Over these 100 weeks, we looked at each topic as an inspiration, an inspiration to take information to our users in the shape and form they would love looking at and absorb it well.

We wanted to cover a fairly wide spectrum including civil wars, LGBT rights, health, environment, boundary disputes, languages, immigration reforms, gun control, and we went on and on. We wanted to cover various topics in detail, which otherwise wouldn’t have meshed up with the scheme of things at Mapsofworld. We succeeded to a great extent.

As we had looked at it as a project, we needed to bring it to an end. So we decided to cap it at 100, describing it as “100 inspirations.” The project played a cardinal role in Mapsofworld.com’s evolution, and, hence, we created a tribute to the project in the form of a poster of all 100 inspirations. Today, the poster is proudly displayed at our corporate office.
