The Grammy Award is most coveted annual award for artists in the music industry.   The award is presented by The Recording Academy. Common perception is that the ceremony happens only in LA. Here is our take on venues of the Grammy Awards

The first Grammy Award event was held in 1959 in New York City and California and honored the musicians for their accomplishments made in 1958. The Grammy Awards began to be televised in 1971 and over the years have built up a strong viewership. In the year 2018, the Grammy Awards viewership was pegged at 19.80 million.

The first Grammy Award was hosted simultaneously at Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, and Park Sheraton Hotel in New York on May 4, 1959. The following years saw the event being hosted at many venues in the country. Till now the Californian city of Los Angeles has hosted 47 Grammy Awards. Staples Center and Shrine Auditorium have been the most frequent venues in the city.

The highest number of Grammy Awards events have been hosted at Staples Center, which is a multi-purpose arena located in downtown Los Angeles. The venue has hosted 18 Grammy Awards telecasts, including the 2019 events. This is more than any other venue in the country. The Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, which till date has hosted 15 Grammy Award telecasts. The center has been the venue for the event between the years 1978 and 1999. The Shrine Auditorium is an important structure and in 1975 was designated as a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument. Apart from the Grammy Awards, Shrine Auditorium also hosts the Academy Awards, the American Music Awards and the Soul Train Music Awards. Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles has hosted four Grammy Award events.

Moreover, among venues of the Grammy Awards, the second place is New York City. NYC  has hosted 22 events. However the most frequent venue in the city has been Radio City Music Hall in Midtown Manhattan, which has hosted 6 Grammy Awards events. The place has been the venue of the events from the years 1981 to 1998. Others are Madison Square Garden and Uris theater in Midtown Manhattan, which have hosted four and one events each. Meanwhile, Tennessee Theater in Nashville has hosted one event.
