New Orleans and the Greater Miami area have hosted the most super bowls.
Till now 51 super bowls have been played. Of these, 20 games have been hosted by the two above-mentioned cities. Both New Orleans and the Greater Miami area have hosted 10 Super Bowls each. The second spot is occupied by the Greater Los Angeles area, which till date has hosted seven super bowls and is due to host its 8th in 2022.
The 2018 Super Bowl, which is the 52nd edition would be hosted at Minneapolis–Saint Paul. The 53rd Super Bowl, to be played in 2019, would be hosted in Atlanta. The 2020 super bowl, the 54th edition, would be held in the Miami metropolitan area. With this, in 2020, Miami Metropolitan area would overtake New Orleans as the city that has hosted the most super bowls.
However, not every city can host a super bowl. In fact, the presence of an NFL team in a market or region is a prerequisite for a city to host a super bowl. In the history of the game, no market or region has ever hosted a super bowl which does not have an NFL team. Moreover, till date, no team has ever played the super bowl in its home stadium.
Miami metropolitan area has hosted the super bowl in 1968, 1969, 1971, 1976, 1979, 1989, 1995, 1999, 2007, and 2010. It would also be hosting the game in 2020. New Orleans has hosted the super bowl in 1970, 1972, 1975, 1978, 1981, 1986, 1990, 1997, 2002, and 2013.
