High blood pressure is a serious medical problem which can also become fatal if precautions are not taken. High blood pressure may be due to a number of factors such as obesity, smoking, lack of physical activity, more than required salt in diet, stress, old age, hereditary reasons etc. However, blood pressure has no symptoms. Many people are actually unaware that they have high blood pressure. However, high blood pressure is detrimental to health and may lead to heart attack, stroke or other cardiovascular issues.
Unfortunately, the past few years have witnessed an increase in the percentage of people suffering from high blood pressure. However, the incidence of blood pressure among people varies from country to country. While in some, a huge population may have high blood pressure, in others the percentage may be low.
According to a World Health Organization data regarding high blood pressure among males, Croatia was the most affected nation. In 2015, the percentage of males aged 18 and above having high blood pressure stood at 38.4 percent in Croatia. Latvia was the second most affected nation with 36.4 percent of the males aged 18 and above having high blood pressure. In both Hungary and Lithuania, 36.1 percent males had high blood pressure, while in Slovenia it was 35.8 percent.
Nations where between 30 to 35 percent of the males aged 18 and above had high blood pressure were Russia, Burkina Faso, Afghanistan, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Mongolia, Pakistan, Niger, among others. Countries such as Nepal, India, Kenya, Iceland, Uzbekistan, Cambodia, Uganda, Brazil, Morocco, Ethiopia, etc also had significant number of males suffering from high blood pressure. The percentage of males suffering from high blood pressure in these nations ranged between 25 and 30.
Meanwhile, there were some nations which were better of than the ones mentioned above but still had a high percentage of men aged 18 and above suffering from high blood pressure. Countries which has less than 20 percent of men having high blood pressure were Ecuador, Bolivia, New Zealand, North Korea, Australia, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Peru, Canada, the United States, and South Korea. Among these South Korea stood at the bottom of the table with 13.8 percent of the males aged 18 and above having high blood pressure.
