The state of Merida is located in the western part of the South-American country of Venezuela. The capital of this state in Venezuela is also known as Merida. This city is flanked by two chains of the Andean Mountains and was established in the year 1960. This city in the state of Merida is also home to the oldest university in Venezuela known as University of the Andes.

Geography of Merida

Tall Mountains like Pico Bolivar (5007 meters), Pico Humboldt (4,942 meters), Pico Bompland cover a significant portion of the state of Merida. There are also 12 state parks in Merida. This state in Venezuela is quite famous for its Glacier lakes, verdant rain forest, waterfalls, paramos and the Palmarito beach. This beach is located on the southeastern side of the Maracaibo lake. Merida is also home to a total of 4 National Parks. Coffee plantations and sugarcane are the main agricultural products of the state of Merida. Flowers like Frailejon bloom in the months of November and December.

Climate of Merida

The state of Merida experiences a tropical climate. The temperature varies from the 20º centigrade to the 25º centigrade mark almost throughout the year. The rainy season extends from the month of May to the month of November. This state receives the maximum amount of rainfall in the months of August and September.
