1. New York City, NY

Undoubtedly, New York is the biggest city in the US by population. Being a global power city, it has also been a forerunner in domains such as fashion, technology and entertainment. Called by popular names like Big Apple, the Capital of the World, and the Empire City, New York City has a population of 8,550,405 as per 2015 estimate.

2. Los Angeles, California

As a sprawling Southern California city, Los Angeles is the largest urban area in the state. Moreover, with an estimated population (2015) of 3,971,883, Los Angeles is the second most populous city in the United States. Home to the Dolby Theatre, Los Angeles has a range of tourist attractions, including Holly Boulevard, Disneyland, Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, Griffith Park, and many more.

3. Chicago, Illinois

Out of the 10 biggest cities in the US by population, Chicago holds the third position. Located on the southwestern tip of Lake Michigan, Chicago is traversed by the Chicago and Calumet rivers. 5. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

According to 2015 estimate, Philadelphia is the fifth most populous city in the US with 1,567,442 people residing in the city. It is located at the confluence of the Delaware and Schuylkill rivers. Popularly known as the 'City of Brotherly Love', Philadelphia has emerged into a commercial, educational, legal and cultural center. Home to the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia hosts USA's oldest Thanksgiving Day Parade.

6. Phoenix, Arizona

On this list of the biggest cities in the US, Phoenix ranks sixth. As the capital city of Arizona, Phoenix is located in the Salt River Valley in central Arizona in the northern reaches of the Sonora Desert. It is home to 1,563,025 people. 7. San Antonio, Texas

Home to the University of Texas, San Antonio also houses the Museo Alameda, the Witte Museum, and the San Antonio Museum of Art (SAMA).

8. San Diego, California

A seaport in southern California, San Diego has a population of 1,394,928. This US city is located along the Pacific Ocean at San Diego Bay just north of the US-Mexican border. 9. Dallas, Texas

10. San Jose, California
