Musoma City Guide



Musoma is placed on the eastern shores of Lake Victoria in Kenya. Also known as Narn Lolwe, Lake Victoria in Musoma provides a magnificent sight of the vibrant cultural life of the local inhabitants.

The surrounding countryside of Musoma contains many cultures like Luo, Kuria, Tatura and Jita.

Places to visit at Musoma in Tanzania:

  • The dugout canoes transport barges, large ferries as well as ngalawa fishing boats over the Lake Victoria, one of the largest lakes in Africa.
  • Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Museum at Butiama containing documents related to Tanzania’s early history, its freedom movement and the rise of nationalism and a translated version of Plato’s Republic in Kiswahili.
  • The market place at Musoma at Tanzania offers a splendid sight of the women selling their home grown mangoes and green leafy vegetables spread out on the brown sheets.

Ferry services are available from Uganda and Kenya to Musoma. The nearby cities include Bukoba, Mwanza, Jinja and Kisumu. Maputo, Mozambique, the capital of Musoma is well known for its excellent restaurants, luxurious hotels and the Portugese architectures.

Situated on the western coast of the Serengeti Plain, Musoma is considered as one of the best tourist destinations in Tanzania.
