The highest point of the Sewdish landscape, Mt. Kebnekaise, lies on this very range. Several rivers, which flow through Sweden, too originate from these mountains. The names of some of these rivers are Indal, Dal, Lule , Klor and Ume. There is a small group of islands to be found near the coast of the Baltic Sea. The most famous and the largest of the islands are Oland and Gotland.

Location of Sweden

Sweden is located in the northwest of the continent of Europe. It lies way into the northern hemisphere.

Its immediate political neighbors are Norway to the west and the northwest; Finland to the east, from which it is divided by the Gulf of Bothnia and the Baltic Sea; and Denmark to the southwest. It is also bordered by the Kattegat, and Skagerrak.

Sweden has a flag that is very basic in design. This rectangular shaped flag has a blue background on which is superimposed a light yellow cross with vertical and horizontal arms that cover the length and width of the flag. This cross, with its vertical arms tending towards the left side, is better known as the “Scandinavian Cross”. While the color scheme – that of blue and yellow – resembles the country’s blazon; the cross is imported from the flag of Denmark.

Climate of Sweden

Sweden generally has a pretty pleasant climate. However, there are deviations depending on the terrain and the specific position and its topography. So, while the southwest of the country is the best place to be – with mild warm summers and mild winters punctuated by rain, the middle and the eastern regions face more chills and are relatively drier in winter and have moderate climate. Then there is the northern region of Sweden which is sub-artic and experiences plenty of precipitation in winter in the form of snow, and sports mild and cool summers.

Boosting its economy is its abundant natural resources which include iron ore, zinc, copper, tungsten, lead, silver, gold, arsenic, uranium and feldspar. Given that the country has dense forests, timber is another natural commodity that can be had in abundance. The country also is a major producer of hydropower. As a result of the extensive numbers of raw materials, industries too thrive.
