Rankings have been issued for the first time at the World Cup this year. Previously, the teams were only divided into groups but this time however, rankings were also given. The rankings are based on the performances of the teams.
Australia was the No.1 team in the official rankings of the International Cricket Council when the draw was made. The rankings have been made according to this list. Based on that Australia, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and Pakistan have been ranked first, second, third and fourth respectively. They have placed in the different groups so that they don’t face against each other before the Super Eight Series. Teams placed between fifth to eighth positions have also been placed in different groups. Rankings have been issued only to those nations which have official One-Day International status.
