Glasgow, Scotland is going to host the 20th Commonwealth Games in 2014 from 23rd July to 3rd August 2014. Glasgow is fully prepared to host this largest multi-sports international event to make it an impressive success story. Seventy one countries are expected to come together and compete in the world’s second largest and the fourth most seen global multi-sports show.
Commonwealth Games 2014 Logo
The Glasgow Commonwealth Games logo displays the Glasgow’s pride in being the host city and the spirit of the Commonwealth Games. It is designed by the design agency Marque.
There are three circles in the logo: the outer complete ring is in red, the next inner ring is in yellow, and the innermost ring is in blue. Within these 3 circles is a “G” Letter representing Glasgow, which is written in green.
Commonwealth Games 2014 Mascot
The official mascot for the 2014 Commonwealth Games is Clyde. It is a thistle named after the city’s river. It was designed by Beth Gilmour, after a countrywide contest supported by the BBC. It showcases the Scottish symbolism and Glaswegian charm and likeability.
Commonwealth Games 2014, Sports Event
The 20th Commonwealth Games will feature the competition of 11 days in17 sports with over 4,500 athletes. There will also be 261 medal events. More Para-Sport events are likely to be held in this game.
Commonwealth Games 2014 Venue
The Athlete’s Village is located in Dalmarnock near the Clyde river covering around 35 hectares’ site in which the Commonwealth athletes and officials will reside. The Celtic Park is located in the Eastern End of Glasgow city, will host the opening ceremony of the games. The Hampden Park is located on the South Side, which will host the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games. It is the main venue for athletics.
