2014 Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony
On 23rd July 2014, Celtic Park will host the Opening Ceremony of the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games in Scotland, UK. After crossing many nations, the Queen’s Baton will return to Glasgow, to officially open the Games. The Queen’s Baton Relay, held prior to the beginning of the Commonwealth Games, is similar to the Olympic Torch Relay and usually is the star attraction of what promises to be a glittering Opening Ceremony. A celebration of Scottish culture and national pride, the event would bring together icons from different spheres of entertainment for the spectacle.
The 11 days of competition will also witness widespread live entertainment, cultural highlights and hustle-bustle around the city.
While making travel plans for the Opening Ceremony of the Commonwealth Games, there are a few points you should keep in your mind. As we know, Glasgow is a compact city, so the best way to reach the venue will be walking, cycling or using public transport.
To provide the spectators as much facilities as possible, the cost of public transport in the local area on the day of the event will be included in the price of the ticket.
The venue will be also be directly linked by the city’s extensive railway system, as well as the subway network, so that reaching or exiting the enclosure will be convenient for the visiting crowd.
Trivia: In a rare withdrawal on 7 October 2013, Gambia announced that they will not take part in the games. Thus, 70 instead of the original 71 countries will participate at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
