Located in the southeastern region of Scotland, Edinburgh lies on the east coast of the Central Belt, along the Firth of Forth, near the North Sea. Edinburgh is nicknamed the Athens of the North. The city was one of the major historical centers of the “Age of Enlightenment”. The Old Town and the New Town districts of Edinburgh have been listed as “UNESCO World Heritage Site” in 1995. Edinburgh has a total population of about 548,000. Edinburgh was founded prior to the 7th century.
