Geography and History of Rwanda help in the better understanding of the country as it exists today. Landlocked by the neighboring countries of Burundi, Tanzania, Uganda the geography of Rwanda is characterized by the presence of hills and mountains. Historically Rwanda is a country that has witnessed periods of strife to achieve its independence.

Geographically, Rwanda has a total land area of around 26,338 km square which includes both land and water bodies. The land nature is characterized by its high elevation which has also led to the prevalence of a temperate type of climate. The topography of the country consists of grassy uplands with a slope from west to east.


The history of Rwanda includes the period of the colonial era followed by the war of independence.
