Beclean



The city of Beclean is located in central Romania. Beclean is included within Bistrita-Nasaud County in the northeastern part of the Romanian central province of Transylvania.

Beclean is noted for its strategic location in the Romanian transport network. It is an important railway junction. The name of the railway station is Beclean pe Somes. The principal railway line of the country passes through Beclean in Romania. The town is an important rail head between the Romanian cities of Satu Mare and Brasov. The secondary railway lines lead to Sighetu Marmatei and Suceava. The population of the town numbers approximately eleven thousand.

The Beclean region of Romania is drained by four principal rivers. The four rivers are the Somes, Cris, Olt, and Mures Rivers. Minor tributaries of the great Danube River also flow through the region. The region is rich in natural resources. A variety of commercially valuable metals like gold, copper, lignite, iron, lead, manganese, sulfur, and salt are found in the region. The Beclean railway station receives a large number of passengers who are engaged in old economy industries. Large industrial units of chemical, iron, steel and textile thrive in the region. Wine production and fruit picking are other small-scale occupations of people living in the region.
