Umm Said, Qatar



Umm Said is located on the eastern coast of the Qatar peninsula which projects out from the Arabian mainland. Umm Said is also known as Musay’id or Messaideed. Umm Said is located at a distance of 45km from the capital city Doha on the eastern coasts of the peninsula. Umm Said is the largest oil exporting port as well as an important commercial port. Umm Said is mainly famous for its oil refineries. However it is also an important name in the production of natural gas liquids, steel manufacturing, petrochemical factories and producing fertilizers.

The famous Qatar Petroleum Company is among the main features of Umm Said at Qatar. It is also the single deep water port of Qatar and the import of the industrial and construction materials are imported in Umm Said. This is one of the major reasons that Umm Said is the heart of Qatar’s industrial culture. It is with the help of these revenues earned from the petroleum business that the country has climbed the ladder to become a modern commercial and industrial state.

The main problems faced by Umm Said in Qatar are that it is on the mercy of the corrosion occurred due to the sea winds and the fluctuations in the sea-bed. Umm Said has established a plant producing nitrogen fertilizers and ammonia along with a self automated flour mill other than the famous National Oil Distribution Company (NODCO) of Qatar.
