Overlooking the picturesque banks of River Warta, Gorzow Wielkopolski is a city located in the western parts of Poland. At present, it is one of the twin capital cities of Lubusz Voivodeship. Before this, Gorzow Wielkopolski had been the capital of the Gorzow Voivodeship from 1975-1998. At the beginning of 1945, the city was severely devastated in a battle between the Red Army and Wehrmacht. However, after the termination of the war, Gorzow Wielkopolski was included once more as an integral part of the Polish mainland. Consequently, the Germans were all expelled from the city to replace them with Polish or Pole citizens.
