Davao City is the capital of Mindanao Island in Philippines. Founded in 1848, the city has derived its name from the word ‘davoh’, which means a place “beyond the high grounds”. The city became as a chartered city on March 1, 1937. It was later subdivided into three independent provinces such as Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, and Davao Oriental. The city increased its population by accepting the migrants from other parts of the country. It is now the regional center for Davao Region.
