Nepal is a South Asian nation, situated along the border between the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of India in the Himalayan Mountains. Nepal is home to many of the world’s tallest mountains, including Mount Everest, which is the highest point on Earth. Nepal has three main geographic features: plains in the south, mountains in the north, and hills in between.
Nepal is divided into fourteen zones, each headquartered in a capital city. Each zone is further divided into districts, of which there are a total of seventy-five. Each of these districts has a chief district officer to help run the district.
The capital of Nepal is Kathmandu, located in the Bagmati zone, is also the country’s largest city, with a population of over one million. Kathmandu is situated in the Kathmandu Valley, which was the original part of Nepal, before the empire expanded its territory. Kathmandu is also the headquarters of the Central Region of Nepal, which is called Madhyamanchal.
