Zomba City Guide



Zomba is the former capital of the country Malawi. Zomba city of the Republic of Malawi is located in an area which is just forty miles far from the Blantyre city. Zomba city is located below a plateau called the Zomba plateau.

Zomba city was the first settlement of the British ruler during the colonial period of Malawi. From this city you can have a great view of nature as this city of Malawi is located in a beautiful setting.

Zomba also has some interesting monuments and buildings. Zomba includes the Cobbe Barracks, memorial of the First World War, the Gymkhana Club, old Residency of the first commissioner of Nyasaland and many more. The Cobbe Barracks is a popular tourist destination of this city of Malawi which was the house of the King’s African Rifles. Here in this city of Malawi you can find a clock tower which is a memorial of the First World War.

Zomba is also home to wonderful souvenirs of the country which are all demonstrating the colonial history of this nation. The old Residency of the first commissioner of Nyasaland and Gymkhana Club are the exact examples of the country’s souvenir.

Zomba city of Malawi is also the home to the old parliament buildings, one of the State Houses of this country and the University of Malawi. Here in this city of the republic of Malawi you can also find a golf course and little botanical garden.

Some 15 km (9 miles) or so Outside the Zomba city there is a renowned jail which is known as Mikuyu Jail located at fifteen kilometer far from the city. In this jail Dr Banda used to imprison numerous political prisoners of his time.
