Kasunga City Guide



Malawi, the “warm heart of Africa” is known for its beautiful lakes, inland sea and national parks. The amazing beauty of the place is enhanced by the stunning landscapes and mountains. Apart from Lilongwe, the capital city of Malawi, Kasunga is also a major city of Malawi.

The Kasunga city in Malawi is famous for the tobacco production and is also regarded as the “tobacco capital” of the country. Tobacco farming is an important occupation of the Malawian farmers. During the month of May, June and July, tobacco farmers gather in Boma to sell their stock of tobacco. Tobacco is being widely sold during this time of the year and the farmers also spend a lot of money after earning them at this time of the year. The Kasunga city gets a total new look during this time.

One of the major attractions of this city is the Kasunga National Park.

Though the park is not replete with wild life yet you may see buffalos, puku, hippos and lions occasionally. The Kasunga National Park is situated in the western side of Kasunga city and a little towards north of Lilongwe. This is considered to be the second largest park after the Nyika National Park. This national park of Kasunga comprises of rolling hills and vast tracts of grasslands.

The Lake situated in the park is the home of about three hundred elephants and several hippos.
