Macedonia Population



Macedonia population refers to the population of the Macedonian country which is about 2,055,915 according to the latest reports of July, 2007. Out of the total Macedonia population about 65% are ethnic Macedonians, 25% are Albanians, about 4% are Turks, 2.7% comprise of Roma tribes as per the 2002 census reports. Serb and other minor communities form smaller percentage of the Macedonian population.

Most of the people of Macedonia follow Macedonian orthodox religion, followed by Muslims who comprise about 33% of the total population as per the 2002 census. There are other minor religions as well which are practiced by smaller groups. The Macedonian Orthodox Church is the most significant and dominant religious institution in the country.The life expectancy for the female population of Macedonia is about 79 years while for the male population it is 71 years. The HIV/AIDS affected population in Macedonia is just about 0.1% of the total population according to the 2001 reports.

About 96% of the total Macedonian population is literate and most of the people above the age of 15 can read and write. About 98% of the total male population is literate and 94% of the total female population is capable of reading and writing.

Most of the Macedonian population inhabits the urban areas and very few of them live in the rural areas. The Republic of Macedonia boasts of a progressive and growth-oriented populace.
