Tsunami warning in many countries
The powerful tsunami that hit Japan early morning has caused much destruction and disrupted everyday life. The earthquake resulted in 10-meter-high waves hitting the coastline of Japan and reducing all structures and areas to rubble. Even after the incident, repeated earthquakes were experienced in various parts of the country.
So strong was the earthquake that a similar fate is now being feared in many other countries also. Various watch agencies have prepared a list and issued tsunami warning alerts in as many as 50 countries. Some of these are Russia, Taiwan, the Philippines, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama, Honduras, Chile, Ecuador, and Hawaii, Colombia, and Peru.
A massive earthquake rocked the northeast of Japan at 1446 local time (0546 GMT), resulting in heavy losses. Measured at 8.9-magnitude, it is one of the most powerful earthquakes to hit Japan in many years. The quake resulted in widespread destruction – buildings were reduced to rubble, bridges were shattered, and there was an unforeseen power outage.
It is estimated that the tsunami if it reaches the pacific coastline, will wipe off entire islands from the map. The situation is alarming, and proper action is being taken already. For instance, Hawaii has already started the process of large-scale evacuation of the coasts.
