Livorno or Leghorn is the capital city of the Province of Livorno and also the 3 rd largest port in western Italy. The charming beaches and the Mediterranean landscape instill tranquility and beauty that inspires pleasure in vacations.

Livorno preserves wildlife including roe, fallow deer, falcons, porcupines, flamingos, and badgers in their naturalistic habitats, oases, parks, and wild reserves. The unsurpassed beauty of the landscape is heightened by hills covered in woods and sheltering medieval citadels.

In Livorno Italy, the Castle of Bolgheri is a must-see for all tourists. The castle belonged to the family of Counts Della Gherardesca. The neighboring village provides a unique view of the encircling countryside. Currently, Bolgheri experiences a flowing resurgence of visitors followed by the growth of numerous oil and wine shops in the streets and lanes. Campiglia Marittima is a medieval town in which the remains of the ancient walls are still visible. If one wants to see the old charms of a village of medieval origin the castle of Castagneto Carducci is the place.

Interestingly the streets are constructed in concentric rings beginning from the castle and replacing the old walls. Only a part of the walls remains facing the sea. In Populonia there is an ancient museum and a quaint little village. The statue of Apollo of Piombino, now installed in Paris was originally discovered in the waters of the Gulf of Baratti. There are other places worth visiting San Vincenzo, Suvereto, and Sassetta.

Livorno Italy has its own gastronomic specialties. In Livorno, there is a distinct breed of chicken named after the city called the leghorn. Apart from its scenic beauty and chicken delicacies, the thirsty travelers invade the city mostly for its Tuaca wine.
