Geography

Standing 177 feet above sea level, the city is located on the periphery of the Po Plain at the foot of the Apennine Ranges and at the convergence of the Savena and Reno river valleys. As the two essential watercourses of Bologna flow straightway to the sea, the city lies outside River Po’s drainage basin. The Bologna Province extends from the western rim of the Po Plain to the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines.

How to reach (Transport)

By Air: The Guglielmo Marconi International Airport is located fifteen minutes from the historic downtown by bus, connecting the city to the prominent European and Italian airports. The Bologna airport is a prominent halt option in Italy for the major flights moving to and fro to other destinations.

By Train: For the premeditated geographic location, between the north and downtown – Bologna turns out to be the major railway junction in Italy. One can avail of high-speed trains from here and can expect a wide range of trains as well as passengers in the coming days.

By car: There are two major Italian motorways (A1 and A14) in Bologna that link the south and north of the country. These motorways connect Bologna to the other prominent cities of Italy.

When to visit

The best time to visit Bologna is from March or April to October as the weather is warm during these months. But, prefer avoiding the months of July and August as the weather is pretty hot then and most of the restaurants and shops are closed. January and February are quite cold and if one is planning to make a journey then, one should do that two weeks prior to the onset of Christmas.
