San Juan Islands

The San Juan Island is one of the major islands that form a part of the archipelago of the San Juan Islands. It also is the second largest in terms of size among them all. Keep surfing Mapsofworld for more information and choices on Islands around the world and also other places.

Located in San Juan County in Washington, USA, the San Juan Island holds most of the population concentration among the cluster which it is a part of. Friday Harbor is by far the island’s chief gateway and also the most important commercial hub. The other major place in terms of commercial exchange and population density is Roche harbor.

One of the places to watch out for in the island is the San Juan Island National Historical Park. Other interesting places to check out on are the San Juan Historical Museum , the Orcas Island Historical Museum and The Whale Museum . Believe it or not, the San Juan Historical Museum stands as a testimonial that once upon a time the United States and Great Britain had taken up arms due a dispute over a dead pig! The island offers some really good cuisine too. You can sample some really authentic fare at the Deer Harbor Inn Restaurant .

The only means of transportation to the island is by ferry. Ferry services are provided by the Washington State Ferry . Once within the San Juan Island, you can opt for car rentals. One of the names providing such service is the Orcas Rental Cars .
