University of Iceland



The University of Iceland, founded in 1911, is a state university, and the premier center for higher education in Iceland.

It is a center for advanced learning, which courses covering a broad spectrum of disciplines. It is well-known internationally for its research and works in different fields of science.

An institution undergoing rapid growth and development since its inception, the University of Iceland has 11 faculties and boasts of hundreds of possible courses of study. A rare feature is that some of the study material accessible to the students at the University of Iceland is essentially Icelandic in flavor. These include manuscripts conserved in the Árni Magnússon institute, census records of Iceland dating from 1703, meticulously complete genealogical data, and climatological, glaciological, geothermal, and seismic records.
