Hurricane Sandy – Areas Affected
Connecticut
- Disaster relief is expeditated in worst affected counties – Fairfield, New Haven, Middlesex and New London in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. Damages in other counties are being assessed for relief.
- Governor announced that the Federal government was going to do everything in its power to help our residents get back to normal as quickly as possible.
- Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced that he has lifted the travel bans from Tues that he ordered in the state earlier on Mondy, effective immediately.
Delaware
- Post-Storm, Gov. Markell Removes Formal Driving Warnings – Limited State of Emergency will Stay in Place to Help Keep Shelters Open and Flooded Areas Safe.
- Affected Counties – Sussex County, Kent County, New Castle County.
- The State set up hot line (800) 464-4357.
- State of Delaware Workers are to Report to Work On Wednesday October 31, 2012.
- Post Storm, DRINKING WATER SAFETY, FREE TEST KITS AVAILABLE FOR PRIVATE WELLS is being made available.
- Public warned Prevent Injuries and Illness During Sandy Clean Up.
Massachusetts
- Massachusetts has experienced minor to moderate coastal flooding, some wind damage and extensive power outages.
- Massachusetts has not reported serious infrastructure damage.
Maryland
- Maryland is fortunate to miss the brunt of this violent storm. However, many towns and neighborhoods still experienced considerable damage.
- Maryland emergency officials are urging citizens to use continued caution and to be alert to the potential for ongoing flooding and standing water that is still present on many roads throughout the state.
- Many areas are still without power in Maryland.
Maine
- Maine is in Flood watch alert.
- Power failure is reported.
- The flood threat from the remnants of sandy will continue in the mountains and foothills.
North Carolina
- Portions of western North Carolina continue to experience winter weather conditions associated with the storm.
- Due to Hurricane Sandy, State authorities have taken many steps. This include
- – Issue State of Emergency declarations in 40 counties East of I-95 and 24 counties in western North Carolina.
- – Close N.C. 12 from Rodanthe to Oregon Inlet bridge.
- – Divert traffic on Highway 158 in Kitty Hawk due to flooding.
- – Close the Bonner Bridge (Oregon Inlet).
- State emergency management officials will be working with local officials to respond to request for debris removal from roadways after the storm has passed.
- Storm lashed Barrier Islands and several homes and business in the area are inaccessible.
New Hampshire
- New Hampshire was lashed by heavy rain and wind due to sandy.
- Many areas was with out power.
- Power is being restored.
- Debris removal and restoration of power is being taken up by the state.
New Jersey
- Hurricane Sandy now called a post tropical cyclone slammed into costal New Jersy on 29th october evening.
- The storm shoving catastrophic volumes of ocean water up over flood barriers and deep into coastal communities — including New York City, which saw a 13-foot storm surge devour parts of lower Manhattan, inundate subway tunnels and flood office buildings, among them the lobby of the New York Daily News.
- New Jersey’s Atlantic City was experiencing dangerously high floodwaters into Tuesday morning, and officials were calling it the worst storm in the city’s history.
New York
- New York is limping back to normal after harricane Sandy salmmed into New York.

Pennsylvania
- Pennsylvania was battered by strong wind and heavy rain but escaped major flooding.
- The State plunged darkness and leaving a trail of damage after the storm.
- At least seven deaths statewide were blamed on the hybrid superstorm that walloped the East Coast.
- Utility crews surveyed the damage and began a massive repair job to restore power to nearly 1.3 million customers across Pennsylvania.
- Hundreds of National Guard soldiers delivered supplies and helped with the cleanup.
- Children got a second day off from school and government offices and many courts remained shuttered.
Virginia
- West Virginia hit by blizzards brought by Sandy. The blizzard dumped 3 feet of snow in West Virginia and left hundreds of thousands in the shivering cold.
- The State also experienced Power outages due to the storm.
Vermont
- Vermont escapes serious damages from Super storm sandy.
