Remote Sensing is the art of identifying and gathering information about the various objects or phenomenon over the earth’s surface, with any direct contact. For applying this latest technique of analysis in various spheres, there are several Remote Sensing Application Center or Application Center Remote Sensing.

The following are some of the most premier Remote Sensing Application Center or Application Center Remote Sensing:

  1. Remote Sensing Applications Center (RSAC):

This is situated in Salt Lake City of Utah, USA. Its provides the national assistance in the field of Geospatial Service. Its chief goal is to develop and apply the cheap ways of use of Remote Sensing in the field of forestry.

The programs of RSAC is categorized into five different program areas:

    • Integration of Remote Sensing
    • Liaison & Special Projects
    • Training & Technology Awareness
    • Inventory-Analysis-Accuracy Assessment

Some of the recent projects undertaken by the organization are:

      • Assessing Watershed Conditions Using Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems
      • Characterizing Upland Meadows with Multispectral Landsat Thematic Mapper Remote Sensing
      • Integrating Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing into a Mountain Goat Habitat Model
  • The Center For Environmental Applications of Remote Sensing (CEARS):

This organization was developed by Virginia Tech researchers for making a way out of the environmental problems. This was established as a NASA excellence center for application of remote sensing to regional and global integrated environmental assessments. They handle various data types like microwaves, multispectral, hyperspectral, lidar, aerial photographs.

    Their sphere of work are:

    • temperate and tropical forestry
    • ecological modeling,
    • marine biology,
    • environmental monitoring
    • urban ecology
    • tropical biodiversity assessment
    • rangeland management
    • invasive species
  • The Mid-Atlantic Regional Earth Science Applications Center (RESAC):

This is also a Remote Sensing Application Center or Application Center Remote Sensing founded by NASA’s Earth Science Application program. Some of their latest researches are:

    • Stream & Watershed Health Indicators
    • Land Cover Mapping of the Cheasapeake Bay Watershed
    • Mapping USDA-NASS Crop Data
    • Forest Change in Northern Virginia: 1937-1998
  • National Remote Sensing Center of China (NRSCC):

This Remote Sensing Application Center or Application Center Remote Sensing is a sub-division of the Chinese Ministry of science and technology. This organization formulate national policies for developing the science of Remote Sensing, satellite navigational technology and geographical information technology.

  • Arizona Remote Sensing Center (ARSC):

This Remote Sensing Application Center or Application Center Remote Sensing was established in 1972, by NASA. The main purpose behind its establishment is to identify the desert terrains and resources.

Some current projects undertaken by this organization are:

    • Evaluation of remote sensing methods for inventory and mapping of desert resources and vegetation mapping at National Parks and Monuments
    • Development of rule-based and geostatistical models of vegetation distribution under varying climatic regimes, southern Arizona
  • Mid-America Remote Sensing Center (MARC):

This Application Center Remote Sensing was established in accordance with the Murray State University, 1979. Its provides formal education in Remote Sensing and GIS (Geographical Information System).

Some recent projects of this organization are:

    • Establishing a Geographic Information System to Formulate a Management Strategy for the Fulton County Levee
    • Land Classification Analysis
  • Nansen Environmental and Remote Sensing Center (NERSC):

This is an non-profit research organization. The main thrust area of their work are:

    • Global and regional climate
    • Modelling of the global and regional marine ecosystem and carbon cycle
    • Coastal zone processes and ecosystem dynamics
  • Environmental Remote Sensing Center (ERSC):

This Application Center Remote Sensing was established in 1970 and first of this kind in USA. Some recent Activities are:

    • Satellite-based land use and land cover change detection
    • Regional lake water quality assessment
    • Agricultural management
  • Remote Sensing Application Center (ReSAC):

This is an non-profit Bulgarian Remote Sensing Application Center, established in 1998.

These Application Center Remote Sensing are continuously striving to develop the science of Remote Sensing and apply it for the benefit of human kind.
