Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
Located in northern Germany, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is the sixth largest state in the country. Also known as Mecklenburg-West Pomerania in English, it is one of the country’s least densely populated regions. Schwerin, which is the capital of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, is also its second largest city. The state was created after the Second World War when the two regions of Mecklenburg and Vorpommern were merged into a single entity. However, the state’s existence was short-lived as in 1952, the state was dissolved. However, following the German unification in 1990, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern was recreated.
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is a prominent tourist destination and attracts thousands of visitors from around the world. There are many spectacular holiday resorts as well as sightseeing destinations in the islands of Rügen and Usedom as well as the Mecklenburg Lake District. Visitors can also take a trip to the Jasmund National Park, Müritz National Park and the Western Pomeranian Lagoons National Park to witness the exotic fauna and flora. The state is also home to many majestic cities such as Rostock, Schwerin, Neubrandenburg, Stralsund, among others. Some popular tourist attractions include Schwerin Castle (Schweriner Schloss), Warnemunde Beach, Schwerin Cathedral, The Mollie Steam Train, among others.
Tourists can land at the Rostock airport, which is located in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern’s largest city Rostock. Other choices include the Berlin and Hamburg airports. If you plan to land at the latter two airports, you can get a train which would take you to prominent cities in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern such as Rostock, Schwerin and Stralsund. These trains are quite frequent and usually leave after an interval of one or two hours.
