Flag of French Guiana

French Guiana is a region of France and uses the national flag of the French Republic as its official flag.

The region, however, uses another flag as well. This flag comprises a white field that bears a yellow five-pointed star in a plot of blue. Below the star, an orange figure is shown in a yellow boat. The boat is featured on a plot of green. The two patches are placed over two wavy orange lines. Above the logo, GUYANE is inscribed, and LA REGION is inscribed below.

The blue patch refers to the advent of new technologies in French Guiana; green represents the lush greenery and forests of the region; yellow stands for the abundance of gold reserves and other minerals found in French Guiana. The waves below symbolize rivers and communication.

On 29 January 2010, the departmental council of the region unilaterally adopted a flag of French Guiana that features two fields in green and yellow divided diagonally. In the middle of the flag is a red star that stands for socialism.
