The flag is relatively new when compared with the flags of other European countries and this flag came into being only in the 20th century more accurately so in 1917 when the Finnish kingdom gained independence.

The blue color on the Finnish flag denotes the lakes and skies of Finland and the white color has been used to depict the snowy atmosphere of this Nordic country, especially the white summers that the country experiences. The flag has been highly influenced by the flag of Denmark.
