Fiji Population



Fiji Population is mainly consisted of the following ethnic groups. Fijian 51%, Indian 44%, European and other Pacific Islanders, Chinese and other 5%.

the total population of 905,949 people can be divided into three age structure such as 0-14 years: 31.1%, 15-64 years: 64.6% and 65 years and above: 4.3%.

The median age of the Fiji Population is around 24.6 years. The Population Growth Rate of Fiji is 1.4% birth rate is 22.55 births/1,000 population and death rate is 5.65 deaths/1,000 population. The fertility rate is 2.73 children born/woman. The life expectancy of Fiji Population is 69.82 years. The sex ratio of Fiji is 1.05:1, which is considered to be healthy.

Population of Fiji follow many religions. 52% are Christians, 38% are Hindu, 8% are Muslim and 2% follow other religions. Roman Catholic, Assemblies of God and Seventh-day-Adventists are significant as well. Though English and Fijian are the official language people also speak Hindustani. People above 15 years can read and write. 93.7% of the total population is literate. 95.5% male and 91.9% female are educated.

The Fijian are people of mixed Polynesian and Melanesian ancestry. The Indo-Fijians are descendants of the contracted labors imported to Fiji. But the Info-Fijian people are facing an exclusionary policy. The tension of between these two communities have left significant impact on Fiji Population and the politics of Fiji.
