North Estonia



North Estonia is a very developed region in the country. This region is dominated by a large number of industries. The landscape of northern Estonia exhibits rich variety. The Gulf of Finland passes from Baltic Cliff to sandy beaches.

The northern part of Estonia also has got fossil formations that are found in the limestone. There are a number of sightseeing destinations in North Estonia. These are the Neeruti and Korvemaa landscape reserves as well as the Lahemaa National Park.

  • Neeruti landscape reserve: This was chiefly founded to protect the bogs, ridges, lakes and forests of the area. The reserve lies between Tapa and Rakvere. The specialty of this reserve is that there are four ridges standing side by side. They also have deep valley formation in between. The area abounds in forests of spruce.
  • Korvemaa landscape reserve: This reserve presents nature in its wildest form. This region abounds in bogs and marshes. There are also hills and valleys in the area. Berries and mushrooms are found in abundance. A number of pristine lakes are to be witnessed around the regions of Janeda and Aegviidu.
  • Lahemaa National Park: This place has got a narrow peninsula that is separated by bay like formations. This lies 50 kilometers to the west of Tallinn in Estonia. This reserve is considered to be one of the most important forest reserves of the European continent.

Also, North Estonia has got medieval period castles, and waterfalls. The Narva Castle is very famous in this region.
