Saare County



Saare County is one of the fifteen counties in Estonia. Saare is also known as Saaremaa by the local people of the county as well as by tourists. Saare is the largest island of Estonia and there are several small islets that surround this county in Estonia.

The islets have enhanced the beauty of the county to a great deal. Saare County in Estonia is bordered by Laane County to the east and Hiiu County to the north. The Saare County of Estonia also has a small proportion of the population concentrated in the county.

Saare in Estonia has a long historical background. The history dates back to almost 5,000 years. There were parishes as well as counties in the olden times, which were governed by parish heads. Presently, Saare County of Estonia is divided into several municipalities. There are rural as well as urban municipalities in the Estonian County of Saare. As in most of the counties of Estonia, the Governor is the head of the County Government in Saare.
