Laane County is situated in the western region of Estonia. It shares border with Baltic Sea in the north, Parnu County in the south, Rapla County in the east and Hiiu and Saare in the west.
The county of Laane is also known as Laanemaa.
Laane is presently under the governance of Sulev Vare. It is divided into a total of 11 rural municipalities and two urban municipalities. Haapsula town lies in the county’s center.
There are a number of tourist attractions in Laane County which are as follows:
- Matsalu National Park: A number of migratory birds make it their nesting place. There is also observation towers built in the county for bird watching. There is a museum and guesthouse in the park.
- The Estonian Railway Museum: Located in the Emperor’s Pavilion, this museum is one of the important tourist destinations of Laane.
- The Ridala Church: This is a 13th century church. The church has got an altar, a Baroque-pulpit and some fragments of ceiling paintings.
- Haapsalu Bishop Stronghold Building: Small Stronghold is the oldest portion of this building. It is a part of the Dome Church.
- The other places of interest include the botanical reserve on the Rumpo peninsula and the Lihula Stronghold.
