Hiiu County



Hiiu is also known as Hiiumaa in Estonia. There are total 15 counties in Estonia and Hiiu is one of the most important counties. This Estonian county is bordered by Saare County to the south and Laane County to the east.

The county also has a long historical background and it dates back to almost 5th millennium BC. Kardla in Estonia is the capital of the county.

Hiiu is extremely beautiful and picaresque and a paradise for nature lovers. The landscape features vary greatly in the Estonian county of Hiiu. The Tahkuna and Kopu peninsulas in Hiiumaa provide serene, languorous beaches. There are several small islets that are scattered all around the Hiiu County. The climate of the place is primarily dry and there is little rainfall. The people of Hiiu are extremely peaceful and live in harmony with each other. There is abundant flora in the county in the form of deciduous forests, meadows, bogs and marshes.

There are several things to explore in this county in Estonia. Some of the special attractions in the county include that of Tahkuna lighthouse, Kardla town, Reigi church, Suursadama port, Kardla meteor crater, Suuremoisa manor, Ristna lighthouse, Kaina church ruins, Kassari chapel, Saarnaki and Kopu lighthouse.

One short trip is not enough to explore all these places in Hiiu, Estonia.
