The flag of the State of Eritrea comprises two triangles in green and blue with a red triangle pointing away from the hoist side. In the center of the red triangle is a yellow wreath with fourteen leaves on either side. The idea of the wreath is derived from the 1952 version of the Eritrean flag.
The Eritrean flag with the olive wreath has been inspired by the flag of the Eritrean People’s Liberation Front. The olive branch is a symbol of peace and has been borrowed from the flag of the United Nations.
The green triangle stands for the country’s natural beauty, lush greenery, and fertility; blue symbolizes the vast oceans and seas, particularly the Red Sea. Red stands for the noble patriotic spirit displayed by the martyrs during the fight for independence. Yellow symbolizes the abundance of minerals in the country.
Eritrea adopted its state flag on December 5, 1995, which makes it one of the newest flags in the world.
