Ecuador Geography is diverse enough for a nation whose total area is not very vast and where much of the land is covered with water.

Ecuador Geography gives a person valuable information about the geographical statistics of the country.




Ecuador Geography Position:

The name of Ecuador echoes a suggestion, that is situated on the Equator.
The neighboring countries are Columbia and Peru.
The pacific ocean lies on the western side of Ecuador.
Ecuador Geography boasts of having an ocean area of some 200 nautical miles.
The Galapagos Islands also constitute a segment of Ecuador.


Ecuador Geography Regions:

The country is divided into 3 different kinds of terrain:

  • Sierra or the central highlands: The famous Andes Mountain Range covers Ecuador from north to the south. This mountain chain has led to the formation of the Occidental and Oriental ranges.
  • The Oriente jungles: The tropical Amazonian jungle regions receive nearly 500 cm of rainfall every year. This has given rise to lush green and dense forest vegetation.
  • Costa or the coastal plains: The coastal region of Ecuador is composed of rich and fertile soil. It has 5 coastal provinces, where splendid hotels and beaches are thronged by tourists. Provinces like Manabi, Esmeraldas and Guanas are scenic destinations.

The varied aspects of Ecuador Geography has turned the country into an interesting destination where one can keep discovering new things.
